Performance in public space II
This project examines the nature of performance in public spaces from the standpoint of masks (from an indigenous perspective) and its role in performance.
The mask is often associated with functions ranging from aesthetic, religious, social and economic. More importantly the role of mask in performance is
significant as it is an integral part of a whole (performance). As an essential characteristic, the mask disguises/conceals the identity of the wearer and establishes
another. Interrogating Haussmann‘s architecture (which constitutes a significant face of Paris) and using it as a material of reconstructing reimagined masks in a
present context. This was simply a defined process of reconstructing from memory while trajecting through dual geography (Paris - Nigeria) and exploring the
visual possibilities and varied context for the project. The concept of performance is being approached from a metaphorical standpoint of masks while situating it
as a phenomena in the public space. The project observes public space through these architecture and the concept of mask as an entry point into performance.
I seek to continually test these concepts by using a merge of photographic images, sounds and videos while creating a multi sensorial pattern.
